Saving paint scraps

Sustainability is important to all of us. The idea of it shows up in my work and on my sustainability-focused site, Spread Good Stuff.

With that in mind, here’s one of my pro tips that is pro money-saving and pro earth-saving: Mix all your leftover paint from a finished art project to create a resource that usually turns out to be a rich gray or brown. There’s always a good use for it. I often sketch my paintings-to-be with these leftover paint pots.

Old palette of use up paint next to freshly mixed palette ready to get started.

Tired paint on my old palette. Bright new array of paints for my new project

There was a lot of leftover purple paint from The Sentries, so the result was a nice plum color. This resource became the outside edge of the painting. I love the hue! Of course, it matches beautifully, and there will be enough to sketch out my upcoming Camellia Branch.

Paint palette leftovers become a resource for the next acrylic paintings.

A new color born of leftovers!

Yes. Paint saved from the water table, and $$$ saved from using up my surplus paint mixtures. We all win!
