The Sentries
“You shall not pass!” seems to be the unspoken message here.
I visited my daughter in Maryland for Thanksgiving last year. Heading up the stairs toward the guest room, I was greeted by these two. I’m not unfamiliar to them, so they know I’m nothing to fear. But what are they up to? Are they hiding something? Am I that interesting? Or do they notice how I hobble with my poor, blown-out knee and wonder if I might fall? And if that is so, are they worried about me, or do I simply present the potential for some Larry, Moe, and Curly-style entertainment?
Whatever the case, the two curious cats, parked at the top of the second floor and on high alert, coupled with the interesting lighting from the fish tank, provided a compelling vision of colors, shapes, and characters. I knew I had to paint these two cats being cats, so I snapped a shot to later translate the intriguing moment to canvas.
“The Sentries” is now complete. The original as well as a series of giclée prints will be available soon. Join my email list for occasional updates!
