Soul of Summer is ready for prime time!

Sometimes, at just the right moment, the light changes colors on ordinary objects. You’ll miss it if you don’t stop and take it in at that moment, as the world seems to show off the true colors it had been hiding.

I had my watering bottles sitting outside on a table, and the sun was hitting them all so pretty; seeing it felt like a little gift from the universe. Soul of Summer, which I completed just this very morning, was inspired by this kind of light.

Assuming it doesn’t sell before September, you’ll see this piece and many more at the upcoming two-woman show, Work of Stillness, at East Village Arts next month. This show, featuring artworks by Ginger Wyatt and me, includes subject matter ranging from figures, botanicals, and wildlife imagery to light-drenched still lifes. The continuing theme is our shared awe of the natural world. It’s a call to pay attention, to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with the real one. It truly does a body good.

Next up, I’m really psyched to start the carpenter bee on lantana piece. I’ve got a big canvas to fill. I might need to stock up on some extra paint and some bigger brushes! Wish me luck.
