Fourth of July Lilies
I hope you had a fantastic Fourth of July! The artwork below is titled “Fourth of July Lilies,” so I featured it in last week’s VIP Email Update. It seemed appropriate. They look like a garden full of fireworks. People often mistake them for Cahaba lilies, but they are not. The spider lilies, also known as Peruvian Daffodils or Hymenocallis festalis (yes, I had to look that up), bloom well even when my garden is hot and dry, while the semi-aquatic Cahaba variety, Hymenocallis coronaria, requires wet feet.
I painted them not long after I moved into my current home, and they bloom faithfully just ahead of every Independence Day. The 36” x 24” original is still available! Click the image below for purchasing information.
