A new camellia painting starts today!

Do you find pollen-laden bees hovering about in flowers charming? You will see them often in many of my floral pieces. Instead of a nuisance, we can think of them as a cherished visitor. They do nothing but assist with nature’s amazing and beautiful intricacies.

The next piece in my Bellingrath Garden series will rely on this photograph for reference and again, feature our important pollinators!

The camellias of Bellingrath

Last year at the Jubilee Festival of Arts in Daphne, Alabama, a woman visiting my booth was contemplating one of my small floral pieces that featured two bumble bees. “I love sunflowers,” she said, “but I just didn’t like bugs.” I mentioned that there would be no sunflowers without them. She said, “I know,” with disdain and moved along. I wasn’t sad she didn’t take it with her.

There was to be one more piece in the series, a triptych of white and pink camellias, but I’ve dropped that from the repertoire for this show. (See “It’s the rabbit’s fault”) I’ve got 14 days, but much to do to prepare. My goal is to complete the new camellia painting before Magic City Art Connection.

Wish me luck, and I’ll keep you posted!
