This amazing staghorn beetle specimen lives at the Montreal Insectarium. Notice the extraordinarily beautiful yellow tone of his hardshell wings, and the striking contrast to the black thorax, limbs, and pincers.

I decided to give the arachnid painting a turquoise background, finding the yellow and black looked lovely against this blue-green color. This soothing color combination provides an interesting contrast to the insect's fearsome imagery.
